Meet the coach

ERIK DORBEK

Basketball has been Erik Dorbek’s life for over two decades — first as a player, now as a coach passionate about passing on everything the game has taught him.

Growing up in a basketball family in Estonia, Erik progressed through every level of the national team pathway — from U16 through to senior international — before embarking on a 15-year professional career across Europe and Australia, including six years in the NBL1 where he ranked among the league's top scorers. Those years were spent refining every part of his game — from shooting and footwork to basketball IQ and understanding how the game is played at the highest level. Learning from elite coaches and competing across different systems shaped not just his playing career, but everything about how he coaches today.

Since transitioning to coaching, Erik has worked with 1,000+ athletes — from U12 rep players taking their first steps in the game, all the way through to the professional level. He currently leads junior and senior development programs at Sydney Grammar School and runs 4 The Game Basketball, where every session is built around helping players transfer their skills into games.

Players Erik has worked with have gone on to earn full scholarships to Arizona State University, represent New Zealand at the U17 World Cup, and compete at state and national level. He doesn't just develop skills — he develops players who understand the game deeply enough to keep improving long after the session ends.
